Summary: | This paper investigates the reasons for Fichte’s apparent disinterest in the topic of theo-dicy in comparison to the central nature attributed to this question by the major exponents both of 18th century culture and of German idealism. To this end, we focus on the close ties between Fichte’s silence on theodicy, the idealist re-elaboration of Kant’s thesis of autonomy, and the optimism, which – though in very different forms – distinguishes Fichte’s thought from the beginning to the end of his conjectures. |
