Description
Summary:This is the first Italian translation of Arendt’s essay on Pope John XXIII, originally written in 1965 and then published in Men in Dark Times. In this article Hannah Arendt traces a ‘profile’ of the so-called «good Pope», emphasizing his independence of thought and his serene attitude towards death. Although not particularly gifted from an intellectual point of view, Roncalli was nevertheless endowed with genuine Christian faith and embodied certain features of the humane «religion of the world», which are traceable in Arendt’s writing and are so emblematic of her personality.
