Através da figura do jagunço e do sertanejo, o escritor rompe com a dicotomia entre o bem e o mal tal como aventada pelo cristianismo ortodoxo e propõe uma espécie de confluência entre esses dois extremos de forma que o bem é visto como imbricado no mal e o mal imbricado no bem. Defenderemos que todo o conto é constituído baseado nesse pressuposto, cujo ápice se dá quando o herói imoral assume ares messiânicos, momento este que se configura como uma ironia de Rosa, em uma relação de intertextualidade com o texto bíblico. | ||
