This notion came to Moltmann by the writings of the Jewish philosopher and theologian Abraham Joshua Heschel. For him divine pathos is the way of God’s presence in the world, the divine concern about his creation. Theprophets had no ideas about God. The prophets suffered the divine pathos. Moltmann took the notion of heschelian pathos and through it interpreted the Easter drama of Jesus of Nazareth. The Trinity pathos is the Father’s loveself-humiliating himself on His Son in order to, through the Spirit, be the Father of all those humiliated. | ||
