O início do cap. 5 enuncia os dois efeitos da contemplação infusa (2N 5, 1.3); a partir daí, os capítulos de 5 a 8 enfatizam a obscuridade e o sofrimento da alma, ou seja, a experiência e os elementos negativos da noite. Isso torna tais capítulos o coração da experiência e de todo o livro da Noite Escura. Em que pese o desinteresse de João da Cruz em escrever um tratado sistemático sobre a vida espiritual, os elementos de obscuridade e de sofrimento são tematizados como partes de um processo espiritual que apresenta seus traços fenomenológicos. Eis as grandes linhas de sua primeira aproximação da temática da “noite escura”: a raiz da obscuridade da contemplação está no tormento que engendra nos adiantados na vida espiritual (caps. 5-6). Tal sofrimento se concretiza numa sensação de abandono afetivo e Desesperança (cap. 7). Devido à delicadeza da nova graça e ao estado de ânimo da alma, a alma fica então cega e inativa (cap. 8) para que, após as privações, venha a chegar à vida e à luz (cap. 9). Por último, tudo isso é ilustrado pela metáfora do fogo e do madeiro (cap. 10). | ||
| 520 | |a Our goal in this article is to present the John of the Cross’ comment on the verse On a dark night. John of the Cross does his first approach to the dark night of contemplation throughout the chapters 5 to 10. The beginning of the chapter 5 presents the two effects of the infused contemplation (2N5, 1.3). From that, chapters 5 to 8 emphasize the darkness and suffering of the soul, i.e., the experience and the negative elements of the night, which makes these chapters the heart of the experience throughout the book of the Dark Night. Despite the disinterest to write a systematic treatise about the spiritual life, the elements of darkness and suffering are thematized as part of a spiritual process which presents its phenomenological features. Here are the main lines of his first approach to the subject of “dark night”: the root of dark contemplation is the torment that engenders in the earliest stages of spiritual life (chapters 5-6). Such suffering happens in a sense of emotional abandonment and hopelessness ( chapter 7). Due to the delicacy and the new grace that change the mood of soul, the soul is now blind and inactive (chapter 8). It will be allowed, after those purgations, to get life and light (chapter 9). Finally, all this is illustrated by metaphors of fire and tree (chapter 10). | ||
