This article represents an introductory approach to the analysis of the theological method developed by Millard Richard Shaull (1919-2002). Starting from the dialectical categories “message” and “situation”, the article shows that Richard Shaull’s theology represents an attempt to give signification to the Christian tradition before the questions raised by new historical situations. This ongoing process of reinterpretation inspires the development of a hermeneutic principle, responsible for the mediation between the Christian symbols and the contemporary existential situation. |
