An under-utilised resource for such conversations is the poetry and fiction of Sherman Alexie. While Alexie’s work does include references to the natural world and to the oppression Euro-colonials have inflicted on Indians, his work also emphasises the urban existence of many Indians and the multitude of ways Indians may seek out the divine. Indians may need liberation, says Alexie, from more than the domination of other cultures; they may need liberation from themselves.
