Starting from the premise that Anselm must have had something in mind, this paper rigorously—and playfully—attempts to figure out what that something was, discovering, in the process, that contemporary theologians are right when they insist that faith is not a belief about beings, but rather a hermeneutical lens for interpreting what is of ultimate value in the world.
