Summary: | This article discusses the ramifications in Brazil of Pope Francis’s call for an international meeting in 2020 in the Italian city of Assisi. Known as “The Economy of Francesco,” this meeting gathered the youth, intellectuals, and activists to rethink the economic development of the planet. It occurred remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but it spurred the emergence of the Brazilian Mobilization for Francis’s and Clare’s Economy, an ecumenical network in the country. This network fights for gender equality, radicalizes the Papal proposition, and appears as an outcome of Christianity of liberation. Based on archival research on the topic, observation of internet activities as well as interviews by youth participants, this article evaluates the meaning of this mobilization in the country from a sociological framework. |
