Description
Résumé:This paper aims to present a discussion about the hope in the environment of the Murid diaspora in Caxias do Sul, Brazil. The Murid is a Sufi Muslim Brotherhood originated in Touba, Senegal, founded by the Prophet Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba (1850-1927) during the French colonial period, whose doctrine articulates Muslim faith and work in a practical way. They structure their diaspora in informal markets. The city of Caxias do Sul was established by Italian immigrants in the second half of the 19th century who came to Brazil because of policies that encouraged the immigration of Europeans. Because of this origin, the city presents the Italianity ethos, a set of values and practices that mixes Catholic faith and work. In this environment of similarities and differences, it will be analyzed how hope emerges from situations of faith, work, legality and morality among the involved subjects.
