520 |a Though Daoism is one of the most ancient of Chinese religions, Christian/Catholic–Daoist dialogue is a very recent enterprise whose growth entails managing obstacles inherent to a novel field. This article, based on personal experience, unveils that dialogue with Daoism calls for humility and for a reconsideration of the mental frames that depicted Daoism as a receptacle of exotic and esoteric rituals, luring curious European minds in search of esoteric religious practices. As in other cases of interreligious dialogues, the main challenges to Christian–Daoist dialogue consist of identifying dialogue partners and experientially establishing the contents, modalities, and expectations of a journey that is only at its beginning. With humility, mutual respect, and openness, the journey might be bountiful in rewards as it unveils the treasures of authentic interreligious dialogue engagements.
