Zusammenfassung:The historical framework of the Catholic Charismatic Renovation (CCR) movement constitutes itself at the end of the sixties, having the United States as its starting point and quickly spreading from there to the whole world. Its arrival in Brazil was due to the Jesuits’ enthusiasm with the new religious experience; their powerful influence produced thousands of praying groups throughout the country. Complex organized structures join these fervorous small groups; new expressions of communitarian experience and religious consecration emerge; initiatives related to Social Communication Media consolidate themselves. The swift uprising of the Latinamerican Catholic Charismatic Renovation takes place at the time of the expansion of the Pentecostal Protestant movement and with the tacit approval of some sectors of the local Church hierarchy. In the context of CCR cultural and institutional consolidation, this article will consider the communitarian mechanisms CCR used to insert itself into the Brazilian society and Catholic Church, examine the theories about CCR in Brazil and finally evaluate the impact of the CCR movement upon recent religious transformations in our society.
