The Water Supply of the Desert Fortresses in the Jordan Valley

Isolated on rocky peaks in the midst of the arid zone, desert fortresses demanded special efforts to ensure their supply of water. Ingenuous Hasmonean and Herodian engineers constructed cisterns, weirs, and conduits for the forts and palaces in and around the Jordan Valley.
