Le soutien de l'État a permis à des réformateurs comme Jean Reymond Merlin et Pierre Viret d'œuvrer à une construction ecclésiastique cohérente et viable, entérinée par des ordonnances et une confession de foi réalisées en 1571 à La Rochelle. L'exemple béarnais montre donc que le système calvinien était capable de fonctionner dans le cadre d'un État princier. The introduction of the Protestant Reformation in Bearn may have followed a French pattern, though in that case the determination of its sovereign, Jeanne d'Albert, led to a specific Church organization. With the help of the state, Church Reformers like Jean Reymond Merlin and Pierre Viret were able to achieve a lasting ecclesiastical settlement with its discipline and confession of faith, the 1571 confession of La Rochelle. The example of Bearn therefore shows that the Calvinist system could work properly with a prince at the head of the country. Die Einführung der Reformation im bearnischen fürstlichen Staat ist mit dem französischen Modell gebunden, unterscheidet sich aber von ihm durch den Willen des Souveränen, der Prinzessin Jeanne d'Albret, eine spezifische Kirche aufzubauen. Dank der staatlichen Unterstützung konnten die Reformatoren Jean Reymond Merlin und Pierre Viret ein kohärentes und existenzfähiges Kirchenwesen einsetzen, das durch Kirchenordnungen und das Glaubensbekenntnis von La Rochelle bestätigt wurde. Das bearnische Beispiel zeigt also, dass das calvinische System auch im Rahmen eines fürstlichen Staates funktionieren konnte. | ||
