By closely investigating a key parallel (Epictetus, Diatr. 1.16), routinely adduced by interpreters in a cursory manner, and relating it to a wider ancient philosophical discourse on what it means to be human, a specific sense for the meaning of λογικός emerges which, when coupled with a fresh grammatical/semantic nuance for the way in which the adjective λογικός modifies the noun λατρεία, promises to be a key component of a reading of Rom 12:1-2 which is able to integrate the contribution of Rom 12:1c with the wider argument of the letter. | ||
