Analysis of regional archaeological survey data from the city's hinterland, the Amuq Valley of southern Turkey, now provides a good picture of the organization and distribution of settlement when the Alalakh archives were written. This study explores the intersections between these textual and regional settlement data. Results offer new insights regarding the historical geography of the Amuq region, the political landscape of Bronze Age polities in the Near East, and the relationship between site size and population density at ancient settlements.
