Description
Summary:The mythological story between § 2 and § 9 of KBo 37.1 "Bilingual Ritual of the Foundation of a Temple or Palace" (CTH 726) deals with the building activities of the Sun-god for his temple in Liḫzina, however, the main theme of the overall composition is the temple of the Sun-god in Ḫattuša, as stated in § 10. Two Hattian passages are intended to provide the key to understanding the main idea of this composition. In § 4 and § 8, perhaps in connection with the god Ḫašamili and then Kataḫzipuri (= Kamrušepa), the goddess of magic, some deeds of mortals and gods in the we-form are told comparatively. Two simple and similar Hattian sentences in different text passages "We (= the humans) make it, the gods made it" can be modified in various ways to make the context more comprehensible. In this respect, a related statement "We (= the humans) did not make it, but the gods made it" in another building ritual composition KUB 2.2 I 35’-37’ (and duplicates) "Laying the Foundation Stones of New Temples or Houses" (CTH 413.1) is relevant, since it too underscores a traditional relationship between mortals and gods regarding the sacred building activities.
