The earliest Christian communities no sooner formed than they found themselves under the threat of criminal proceedings. The Roman emperor Trajan, corresponding with Pliny the Younger, an imperial magistrate, addressed proper procedure for the trials of Christians. Other emperors put considerable numbers of Christians to death. | ||
