Cet article analyse d’abord la genèse et les ambivalences de ce modèle organisationnel de l’aumônerie. Dans un second temps, l’étude de deux cérémonies religieuses – la messe nationale du 11 novembre et la messe du 23 mai en hommage aux victimes de l’esclavage colonial – permet de montrer comment la culture et l’histoire antillaises sont mises en forme et remémorées par l’institution ecclésiale et les paroissiens. La diversité des modes d’appréhension et d’interprétation d’une spécificité antillaise s’inscrit dans des rapports hiérarchiques au sein de l’Église catholique et révèle des régimes de temporalité et des enjeux mémoriels divergents. | ||

This article first analyzes the genesis and ambivalences of this organizational model of chaplaincy. Secondly, the study of two religious ceremonies - the national mass of November 11 and the mass of May 23 in homage to the victims of colonial slavery - allows us to show how the French Carribean culture and history are shaped and remembered by the church institution and the parishioners. The diversity of ways of understanding and interpreting a French Caribbean specificity is part of hierarchical relationships within the Catholic Church and reveals divergent temporality regimes and memorial issues. | ||
