But the Hebrew social order continued to function and to think of itself in terms of group-life, i. e., social solidarity. Isaiah, chapter 53, takes this conception of group-solidarity and expands it to world-wide dimensions. He represents Israel, as one member of the human family, suffering for the sin of the entire family-group. He thinks no longer in terms of the Hebrew family, but rather in those of a world-family under the great common Father.
