It signifies the Supreme Power, on which we are ultimately dependent; the Power upon which we depend for the conservation of values; the Causal Power which constitutes the universe as it is; the eternally transcendent Ideal; the Ideal Spiritual Companion; and the "Holy," arousing the sense of awe. The discrepancies between these various conceptions are pointed out, and a way of harmonization indicated by the conception of God as Moral Will, the personal companion of man's inner life. The relation of such a God to the cosmos may be interpreted by the analogy of a psychophysical organization, animated by an indwelling spiritual mind and will. God's relation to human persons may be symbolized by the conception of a spiritual society in which he is the dominant Spirit.
