Rather than advocating a ritual-versus-ethics dichotomy, in this essay I strive to convey the nuances and complexity of Hosea's overall attitude to the cult. I discuss the framework of a covenantal relationship to locate Hosea's extensive cultic references. I then examine key passages where Hosea denounces covenantal violations by contemporary priests and people. Underlying his criticism is Hosea's ideal of an authentic cult imbued with דסח, which I explore in depth. | ||
