Summary: | After taking into account some early hints in unpublished letters, this paper outlines what can be regarded as the predominant themes of Ugo Bianchi’s teaching at the Università Cattolica in Milan, along with the key elements of the methodological approach developed during this period of his studies. Evil and salvation, in both Christian contexts and the ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern worlds, were the privileged themes of Bianchi’s scientific research. These themes represented the fields for application and evaluation of his methodology which was based on three fundamental assumptions equivalent to the notions of analogy, historical (or concrete) universal, and historical typology. |
