Yet, educated along the rules of university exegetical training, Olivi is also constantly defending and practising the primacy of the litteral sense. His reference to the Pseudo-Dionysius helps understanding the way in which he combines both approaches. Just as the divinity revealed itself by taking on a human corporeal shape, the spirit has to be searched within the letter, not beyond. In this way, the most litteral sense (litteralior - a term often used by Olivi) can provide an access to the most spiritual one. | ||
