Shifting views regarding the causative factors and a move away from identifying negative causes provide the grounds for the thesis of the paper: AICs should be regarded not so much as a negative reaction against a variety of issues, but rather as a positive response to the Gospel and its interpretation within the vicissitudes of a changing environment. Hence the justifiability of certain forms of criticism on the part of some Black Theologians is queried. Finally a number of areas in which this positive response is evident are noted.
