Despite the restrictions and limitations placed on the lives of female members of Mormon fundamentalist communities, and even the abuse that occurs in some family situations, threats to the perpetuation of plural marriage in the future come from a complex combination of external and internal pressures. These pressures include the power structure of patriarchy, the intervention of governmental agencies in the private lives of polygamous families, the abuse of prophetic leadership on the part of the leaders of the various groups, and, finally, human frailty. | ||
