520 |a The Alexandreis, Walter of Châtillon’s epic poem on the deads and death of Alexander the Great, knew an instant and overwhelming success. It was immediately cited and imitated by his contemporaries and still read and appreciated by the humanists. At the beginning of the thirteenth century an anonymous poet wrote the poem Claruit imperio Gretie Grecorum, being an abbreviation of the Alexandreis in 35 Goliardic stanzas cum auctoritate. As the poem has passed almost unnoticed by the historians of Medieval Latin, the present article provides the first critical and commentated edition.
