The concept of dignity is often seen as the guarantor of a moral Archimedean point, and Kant’s understanding of dignity is thus used as a theoretical basis. However, the desired foundation cannot be found in Kant and remains nothing more than a formal practical principle as far as dignity is concerned. Korsgaard takes this formal justification of human practice and expands it with thoughts of practical identity and self-constitution in such a way that, on the one hand, the justification of human practice is ensured by reason, and, on the other hand, the explanatory motives are obtained from what the agent wants to represent in the world. Something is important to the agent - it is important to the agent himself. This is a part of human practice that we share with other forms of conscious life and therefore cannot be irrelevant to our mutual relations. |
