Her text—useful for advanced undergraduate or graduate seminars—demonstrates that, while this tension may reside in sociology and the sub-discipline of the study of religious phenomenon, it is possible to be “both fully modern and fully religious” (ix). This is an important perspective given the sometimes inimical relationship between mainstream sociology and the sociology of religion.
