Summary: | American Catholics Today is fourth in what has become an indispensable set of longitudinal studies by leading sociologists of religion conducted every six years, starting in 1987 (so that the current volumes' data were collected in 2005). The design of the studies allows for comparisons across cohorts as well as for analysis of changes over the years within cohorts., The entire series is a central source for scholars of American Catholicism, and this volume would also work well in an undergraduate course. While not being a historical analysis itself, it gives just enough historical context that the undergraduate novice could understand the significance of the generational differences. |
