The difference between Western and Eastern is only indirectly geographic, referring principally to Max Weber's ideal-typical distinction between two corresponding worldviews, the Western one characterized by a radically transcendent personal deity who creates and controls the natural world and humans, the Eastern by an immanent and impersonal principle of which the natural world and humans are an intimate aspect.
