D'Antonio and Pogorelc saw the rise of VOTF as an opportunity to study a social movement from its birth. In 2003 and 2004, they interviewed the founders and leaders of the group and surveyed its membership. In the first half of this book, they present their findings; in the second half, six scholars—four sociologists and two theologians—comment on them., The book, then, presents a snapshot of a certain group of people at a certain time and place. Like any picture, it includes certain things within its frame and excludes others. Those who look at it will probably agree on the basic features.
