Summary: | There is a change coming in religion and politics research, marking a sharp break with much past research. Instead of focusing on labels and imputing the political content of religious experience, researchers taking this new dynamic approach to religious influence are proceeding from a concern for political communication. These studies are making contact with a wider range of political science, sociology, and psychology literatures on, especially, opinion formation. In pursuit of a broad set of concerns, this approach takes seriously the organizational nature of religion made up of multiple levels of analysis, communication processes, and variable orientations toward the actors and information coming from them. |
