Pitt draws upon a diverse sample of interviews with 115 men and women who are licensed or aspiring-to-be licensed clergy. With this volume, he aims to address three main questions: “Who are the called? What is a calling? [and] How is the called-identity defended in the absence of professional knowledge, professional employment, or professional credentials?” (6)., We learn that the call takes place in two main stages.
