Picking up on these themes, this study broadens existing research by examining the crossroads between religion and moral judgments on the permissibility of cohabitation and premarital sex in the context of contemporary Brazilian society. Findings rendered from our analyses indicate that Brazilian Protestants are more disposed to assume a restrictive moral posture toward such behaviors, with similar findings for Brazilians who embrace a theologically conservative view of the Bible. Results corroborate previous research findings on similar social issues in the United States while at the same time broadening scholarly understanding of how religion may influence moral judgments on relationship practices in a novel social setting.
