Au contraire, on peut suivre ensuite en Mésopotamie, à partir de l'époque d'Uruk, l'évolution parallèle de l'expression de la pensée, par l'écriture et par l'image, cette dernière étant organisée dans un riche répertoire iconographique. On assiste ainsi à l'éclosion de l'anthropomorphisme, puis à l'apparition des premières figures proprement divines, tandis que le vieux répertoire animalier reçoit une interprétation cosmologique. Finalement, les dieux anthropomorphes ont été associés, à l'époque d'Agadé, aux génies, monstres et animaux symboliques de leurs domaines cosmiques respectifs. Il semble ainsi que ce processus corresponde à l'élaboration de la notion traditionnelle de divinité régulatrice de l'ordre naturel, dans un panthéon dûment organisé. The extreme stability of the neolithic iconographical tradition, combined with its undoubted poverty, does not seem to have been able to express the development of a religious thought capable of conceiving of divinities in the proper sense of the word. On the other hand, later in Mesopotamia, from the Uruk period, the parallel development in the expressions of this thought can be followed, both in writing and in images, the latter being organized in a rich iconographical repertoire. First is seen the emergence of anthropomorphism, then the appearance of the first figures which are properly divine, while the old repertoire of animal forms receives a cosmological interpretation. Finally, in the Agaddé period, the anthropomorphic gods were associàted with genii, monsters, and animals symbolizing their respective cosmic domains. It can thus be seen that this process corresponds to the elaboration of the traditional notion of divinity regulating the natural order, into a properly organized Pantheon. | ||
