Mais la phonétique araméenne ne supportant pas deux pharyngales dans le même mot, la dissimilation est déjà attestée dans le premier siècle avant J.-C. Toutefois, des exemples de graphie avec deux caïn ont été retrouvés dans les manuscrits araméens de la mer Morte qui laissent supposer pendant quelque temps une différentiation encore effective des deux phonèmes rendus par une même lettre. Mais cette graphie cc tout comme la dissimilation ɔc dans un manuscrit peuvent difficilement servir de critère précis pour dater une compostion. The interdental /ḍ/ which is missing in the west-semitic alphabetic writing, was spelled in Aramaic first by qof, then by cain during the Persian period and beginning of the Hellenistic one according to areas. But the Aramaic phonetic does not tolerate two pharyngals in the same word, thus examples show that the dissimilation has already taken place in the first century B.C. However, other examples of an orthography with two cain have also been found among the Aramaic Dead Sea scrolls which let to suppose during some time a still real distinction of the two phonemes written by the same pharyngal cain. But the orthography cc as well the dissimilation ɔc in a manuscript cannot easily be used for a precise dating of an Aramaic composition.
