Two broad methods used by futurists are summarized with suggestions for their application to studies of the future of religion. The first is the projection of trends, and the second is the scenario of alternative futures. Development of both methods in futuristic studies of religion has been limited. The data about religion yesterday and today are inadequate for reasonable projections for the future. Scholars of religion seem largely to have abdicated the field of visions of the future to scientists, technologists, planners, and artists. | ||
