Using leadership selection as the measure of participation and the "Mormon" missionary system as the population, relationships between selectee socioeconomic status and participation and between selector-selectee socioeconomic status similarity and selectee participation are examined. The data indicate that the socioeconomic similarity dimension is more highly related to participation than simple selectee socioeconomic status. The importance of similarity on other dimensions is suggested.
