Data from a study of 505 rural churches in Missouri are reported. Formalization is indicated by the presence of a variety of educational programs and organizations. Organization set membership is based on church-sect identification. Membership size indicates resources. Church-groups are found to be more formalized than sect-groups and more responsive to size increments in the implementation of a formalized model. Sect-groups are more likely than church-groups to maintain a number of worship and evangelistic services.
