There is general agreement that highest priority should be given to congregational nurture goals such as preaching, fellowship, religious education for children, spiritual guidance, and counseling. But disagreement arises over the importance and proper forms of mission and outreach outside the membership. The main disagreement is between evangelism and social involvement. The principal source of the disagreement is theological; the data show great variation of belief about central Christian teachings. Two distinct theological viewpoints are discernible, and they are related to church priority preferences. The theological split is greater than differences between ministers and laity; it is the basic source of disagreement. | ||
