Attention is given to both the historical roots and theological substance of Graham's cosmology. Through an examination of the role played by nineteenth century rivivalist thought in his message, the meaning of Graham's pre-millennialism is clarified. The premillennialist view of the Second Coming, the preaching of Dwight L. Moody, modern existentialism, and the American dream are found to contribute to Graham's cosmology. The relationship of the evangelist's vocation to his worldview also is examined. The result of the research reveals just how crucial an understanding of theological themes can be to the proper analysis of a figure like Billy Graham. Although Graham is a man shaped by his times, he also is a man shaped by his theology. | ||
