The analysis focuses upon the attitudinal consequences of religious preference and participation in religious services among a representative sample of white Protestant and Catholic adults. The findings indicate that religious preference and church attendance are not always mutually reinforcing in their consequences for secular life. Individuals who rank high on attendance tend to be members of "moral communities" reflecting anti-abortion positions, regardless of the degree of liberal ideologies normally associated with certain church or denominational preferences.
