On the MMPI scales, there were significant decreases in psychopathology. Major shifts in needs were seen on the EPPS. The 1970 incoming class had significantly higher scores on the need for achievement, order, and deference, and lower scores on the need for aggression and heterosexuality. On a peer evaluation measure, the incoming 1976 class had significantly higher scores in flexibility, leadership, stability, sensitivity and cooperation. In interpersonal needs (measured by FIRO-B), the incoming class of 1970 showed significantly higher scores in wanting control, and expressing and wanting group inclusion needs. In counselor style, the incoming class of 1976 was significantly more active and more personal in counseling style. The demise of high school and college seminaries is seen as the major reason for these trends in test scores.
