A sermon impact survey was completed by 262 lay members of 15 Catholic parishes. The results of the survey indicated that members perceive themselves to be moderately affected by sermons. In general, significant relationships emerged between the predictors and the sermon impact scale. Perceptions of the sermon itself predicted sermon impact more strongly than member demographic, member background, or clergy presentation style variables. In particular, relevance of the sermons to the daily life of the member and the extent to which the sermons had a clear central topic were most strongly related to sermon impact. | ||
