520 | |a This paper examines the impact of women's employment on the marital happiness of 313 Mormon couples. Five dimensions of marital happiness are considered: global marital happiness, marital cohesion, marital consensus, sexual satisfaction, and marital satisfaction. Analysis of the husbands' responses showed that husbands were most happy when their wives were working full time and least happy when they were working part time. When controls for religiosity and age of children are included, the results produced significant differences in sexual satisfaction with husbands of full-time employed wives reporting the most satisfaction, followed by those with traditional wives. Least satisfied were those with part-time employed wives. Few significant differences were found for wives across the employment categories. There was a significant difference in global marital happiness with traditional homemakers being the most happy, followed by full-time employed wives. Wives working part time were the least happy. When wives identified themselves as strong church members and the age of children was added as a variable, results showed traditional homemakers with preschool children had higher global marital happiness, consensus, and sexual satisfaction. | ||
