Summary: | The results of this study suggest that religious variables are important determinants of the political attitudes of white evangelicals. Despite the relative homogeneity in religious attitudes and behaviors among evangelicals, it is found that denomination, doctrine, religious identification, exposure to religious elites, and the subjective connection between religious and political beliefs have a significant influence on political attitudes. Based on multivariate analysis, the findings further suggest that religious factors have an important effect when demographic variables, partisanship and ideology are controlled. |
