Next, the paper introduces and discusses a newer paradigm that views the city as a growth machine. Finally, it presents a case study based on this new perspective of a large Southern Baptist congregation in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, suggestions are made concerning the implications of the growth machine paradigm for other religious institutions as well as an outline of directions for further research.
