It represents a replication of earlier work done by de Vaus (1984) that found no support for the hypothesis in the United States. In contrast, this study reports partial support for the hypothesis. Results are discussed in terms of U.S./Canadian differences and in terms of implications for future gender differentials in church attendance in Canada.
