520 | |a This investigation of religious commitment and community integration among Jews in the United States is a replication and refinement of Levine's (1986) study. The refinements include: a) treating both commitment and integration as multidimensional variables and b) investigating Zionism both as a determinant of integration into a community and as a control. Levine's major finding that religious commitment is related to integration into a Jewish community is supported; however, Zionism is also shown to be related to community integration. Moreover, it influences the relationship between commitment and integration. Finally, contrary to Levine's findings, the relationship between commitment and integration is not generally stronger among control groups more likely to be assimilated. | ||
